Attorney Diana Santos Johnson Attends 2024 Hispanic National Bar Association Annual Convention

Waldrep Wall Babcock & Bailey PLLC Attorney Diana Santos Johnson attended the 2024 Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) Annual Convention from Sep 4-6 in Washington, D.C. This event featured programming and networking opportunities for Hispanic attorneys, law students, judges, and other legal professionals.

The HNBA is a prestigious national association that brings together attorneys, judges, law students, and other legal professionals to educate, engage, and empower members of the Hispanic legal community. The association is also a strong advocate for issues impacting the broader Hispanic community.

In 2023, Diana received the HNBA’s “Top Lawyers Under 40” Award. This award celebrates and highlights the accomplishments and contributions of HNBA members who have distinguished themselves in the legal profession. The award honors lawyers who have demonstrated professional excellence, integrity, leadership, commitment to the Hispanic community, and dedication to improving the legal profession.

Associate Peyton M. Pawlik Joins Our Firm

Waldrep Wall Babcock & Bailey PLLC is excited to announce that Peyton M. Pawlik has joined our firm as an Associate in our Winston-Salem office. Peyton brings with her a strong background in litigation and healthcare law.

Peyton joined Waldrep Wall Babcock & Bailey PLLC as an Associate in 2024. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Pre-Professional Legal Studies from Appalachian State University, graduating Cum Laude in 2011 and earning High Honors in the Department of Government and Justice Studies. Peyton earned her Juris Doctor degree from Campbell University’s Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law in 2015. While attending, she served as a project coordinator for the Campbell Law Pro Bono Council. Upon graduation, she received the Order of Old Kivett Award for excellence in advocacy.

Prior to joining our firm, Peyton first practiced as an Associate with Coffey Law, PLLC, and then as the Litigation Attorney for Lewis & Keller, Attorneys at Law.

Partner Jennifer Lyday Appointed Chair of the Local Rules Committee for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of North Carolina

Waldrep Wall Babcock & Bailey PLLC Partner Jennifer Lyday has been recently appointed Chair of the Local Rules Committee for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of North Carolina.

As Chair, Lyday will lead the Committee, which is charged with annually reviewing the Local Bankruptcy Rules and making recommendations to the Bankruptcy Judges for any additions or amendments. The 10-member board consists of the Bankruptcy Administrator, the Clerk, the Chief Deputy Clerk, the Chapter 13 Standing Trustees, a panel Chapter 7 Trustee, and consumer and commercial debtor and creditor attorneys. 

Partner Ciara L. Rogers Appointed to ABI’s Young and New Member Committee Leadership

The American Bankruptcy Institute has appointed Waldrep Wall Babcock & Bailey PLLC Partner Ciara L. Rogers as Special Projects Leader within its Young and New Members Committee. The committee’s membership consists of bankruptcy practitioners under the age of 40 and/or practitioners with less than 10 years of experience in the industry. The committee is designed to provide professional development and networking opportunities for those in the early stages of their careers.

NCBA Selects Attorney Diana Santos Johnson for Citizen Lawyer Award

Waldrep Wall Babcock & Bailey PLLC Attorney Diana Santos Johnson was named in the North Carolina Bar Association’s Citizen Lawyer Class of 2024. The Citizen Lawyer Award celebrates role models in the legal profession who invest in their communities by volunteering their time and talents to advance worthy causes. 

Diana was recognized for her volunteer efforts with Piedmont Advantage Credit Union (PACU), Smart Start of Forsyth County, Inc., and the Hispanic League, as well as her involvement in the North Carolina Bar Association’s Minorities in the Profession Committee and the Women in the Profession Committee.

In addition to his law degree, John holds an LLM in Taxation from New York University.

Zachary Malnik Joins Our Firm

We’re pleased to announce that Zachary (Zach) Malnik has joined the firm in a Counsel role.

Having recently relocated to the Triangle from Florida and being admitted to North Carolina Bar, Zach brings with him significant experience in the areas of both business insolvency and commercial law. Zach is also a staff attorney for the Salkin Law Firm, P.A. in Florida.  

Zach received his J.D. degree with Honors from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 2018, where he served as Executive Student Works Editor of the Florida Journal of International Law. He received a B.A. degree from Boston College in 2015. He is active in both the Florida Bar and North Carolina Bar.

Waldrep Wall Babcock & Bailey PLLC Attorneys Thomas W. Waldrep, Jr. and James C. Lanik presented at the Plaintiffs Asbestos Litigation Seminar (PALS) in Las Vegas, NV, on May 15, 2024. We thank them for presenting and proudly representing our firm! 

 

Tom and Jim co-presented “Bankruptcy Update and Review,” an overview of recent Chapter 11 bankruptcies that attempt to limit the asbestos liability of large companies, to an audience of lawyers who represent asbestos victims in the tort system and whose clients are often thwarted by these bankruptcies as they seek compensation for injury or death.
